Conventional Medicine

Over the weekend I experienced pain in my flank (back) and side which had me thinking I might have a kidney stone or infection, so I went to the doctor to make sure my kidneys were ok. It turned out to be a minor gallbladder attack due to too much dairy. Even though this was the diagnosis the doctor wanted to give me 2 prescriptions for an anti-inflammatory and a muscle relaxer in the event the pain continued. I declined.

As I was driving into work this morning I was thinking about my visit to this conventional medicine doctor on Tuesday. I remember at least two decades back that the first course of treatment by most conventional doctors was to try simple natural remedies first. Like removing the source of the problem, changing ones habits, etc. They weren't so quick to grab the script pad. I can't help but wonder if due to our wanting instant relief and "cures" if we have been partly responsible for conditioning doctors to the more recent wave of pushing pharmaceutical drugs.
